Hosted events[]

Dream On Contest[]

MetaFox began the first Dream On Contest on October 8, 2003. The next year the results were in and the contest was a success, due in large part to The GOAT Store, who agreed to publish the winners of the contest as commercial games.

Plans were put into motion to host the second Dream On Contest, as well as a second issue of the Dream On Magazine. The domain that hosted the first contest became an online news site to complement the magazine, and when the second Dream On Contest began on November 10, 2004 it was hosted by the Dream On website.

The Dream On website also hosted the third Dream On Contest when it began on November 10, 2005. Shortly afterward, the domain registration lapsed, and it was purchased by a cybersquatter.

MetaFox managed to regain the domain and brought Dream On back online on June 27, 2018. The Dream On contest was once again hosted by the Dream On website when the fourth iteration of the contest began on July 6, 2018.

Dream On and DreamCon conventions[]

The convention that would become known as DreamCon was first held as Dream On at the Midwest Gaming Classic on May 22 and May 23, 2004 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The first issue of the Dream On Magazine and the winners of the first Dream On contest were released at the convention.

The convention was held the next year as DreamCon at the East Coast Gaming Expo on July 25, 2005 in Reading, Pennsylvania.

The third DreamCon convention was held at Magfest on January 13, January 14, and January 15, 2006 in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The fourth DreamCon convention was held at the Midwest Gaming Classic on June 3 and June 4, 2006. The winners of the 2005 Dream On contest were shown for the first time.

The fifth DreamCon convention was held at Magfest on January 4, January 5, January 6 and January 7, 2007. DreamCon was integrated right into the main convention, with Dreamcast game tournaments and prizes.

The sixth DreamCon convention was held at Con on the Cob on October 15, October 16, October 17, and October 18, 2015.

The fifth DreamCon convention will be held at RetroGameCon on November 3 and November 4, 2018.

The Dream On name[]

Dream On is also a series of official Dreamcast demo discs created by Sega and distributed via various magazines throughout Europe during the Dreamcast's official lifespan. The existence of the official Dream On companion disc is why the companion disc for the Dream On Magazine was titled The Sandman.
